Our Commitment to Non-Lead Water Sources

Since July 1, 1947, Southington Water Works has enforced strict regulations that ban the use of lead-bearing materials in our water service lines. We require only approved, non-lead materials such as copper, brass, and cement-lined galvanized pipes. This commitment ensures that the water feeding your home comes from a safe, non-lead source.

Understanding Ownership of the Service Line

It’s important to understand that Southington Water Department owns and maintains the service line up to the curb stop. The curb stop is a valve that separates the water main from your property’s service line, usually located near the property line. The portion of the service line that runs from the curb stop into your home or building is owned by the property owner. As a result, you, as the property owner, are responsible for any repairs, maintenance, or replacement of the service line from the curb stop to your property.

Financial Assistance Programs

We recognize that repairing or replacing a service line can be a financial burden for some property owners. To assist in these efforts, Southington Water Department is actively working on establishing financial assistance programs. These programs are aimed at providing low-interest loans to help property owners correct or replace their service lines when necessary. Our goal is to make the process as manageable as possible for our customers, ensuring access to safe, reliable drinking water for all.

Our Continued Efforts

Southington Water Works is dedicated to ensuring that our water distribution system is safe and reliable. We continue to review and update our records, actively replacing any outdated or problematic materials, including galvanized pipes and lead goosenecks, to meet regulatory standards and safeguard the quality of our water supply.

For any further assistance, or to request your tap card information, schedule an inspection, or inquire about our financial assistance programs, please don't hesitate to contact our office. We are here to ensure that you have all the information you need regarding your water service line.
